New Online Anaphylaxis Training for Healthcare Professionals

Blue Stream Academy is pleased to announce the release of a new Anaphylaxis Awareness eLearning course.
The NHS defines Anaphylaxis as “Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening allergic reaction that happens very quickly. It can be caused by food, medicine or insect stings.”

What Does This Anaphylaxis Awareness Training Course Cover?

Anaphylaxis Awareness has been created for learners in non-clinical roles that work in health and social care and need a basic understanding of anaphylaxis, such as administrative staff and receptionists. It is crucial that all health and social care professionals have an understanding of anaphylaxis including how to recognise and respond in situations of suspected anaphylaxis.
The anaphylaxis training course content provides an introduction to anaphylaxis, including what it is and why it happens, the key signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis, and the common allergens that can trigger anaphylaxis.
Anaphylaxis can be caused by a broad range of triggers, but the most common allergens identified include:
  • Food – such as peanuts, tree nuts and cow’s milk.
  • Drugs – such as antibiotics and chemotherapy drugs.
  • Venom – such as inspect stings.
Anaphylaxis Awareness also offers information about how to recognise anaphylaxis, including identifying it using the ABCDE approach.
The course also provides information about the initial steps to treat anaphylaxis, how to adapt treatment based on context and resources, and the expectations of those experiencing anaphylactic reactions.
The course gives insight into how to position service users appropriately during an emergency situation of someone experiencing anaphylaxis, removing the trigger of the reaction, and how to respond to cardiorespiratory arrest during anaphylaxis.
Anaphylaxis Awareness will help learners to understand how to use adrenaline auto-injectors, the use of intramuscular adrenaline as first-line treatment, and why antihistamines are not recommended in the treatment of anaphylaxis.
