Ladder Safety | New eLearning for Healthcare Professionals

Blue Stream Academy

Blue Stream Academy is pleased to announce the release of a new Ladder Safety eLearning course, available now on the:

What is Work at Height?

There is always risk when working at height.
Despite the significant innovations in safety and technology, work at height is regarded as one of the most dangerous activities in the construction, maintenance and facilities management industries.
Falls from a height were the biggest cause of workplace fatalities in 2023/24. (Workplace fatal injuries in Great Britain HSE 2025)
Employers can take simple, practical measures to reduce the risk of any of their workers falling while working at height.
Ladders can be used for work at height when a risk assessment determines that alternative equipment offering greater fall protection is not necessary. Ladders and stepladders can be used for low risk, short duration (no more than 30 minutes) tasks, when equipment providing greater fall protection is not required.

Is Ladder Training a Legal Requirement?

Ladders and smaller equipment can be used for work at height when there is low risk and a short duration of use (often tasks that take less than 30 minutes).
You do not need to be formally qualified to use these types of ladders and equipment.
You just need to have the necessary skills, knowledge and experience (known as competence); or, if you are being practically trained, you should be working under the supervision of a competent person.
Competence can be shown through a combination of training, practical and theoretical knowledge, and experience.

What does this Course Cover?

This eLearning healthcare course covers the safe and effective use of ladders and stepladders, accessories, and the importance of pre-use equipment checks. It also provides information on smaller access equipment, such as mobile step stools and static steps, that may be used within an organisation.

Who is this Course Suitable for?

This course is suitable for anyone within the health and social care sectors who uses ladders at work and is best supplemented by practical training to ensure full competence.
