Health and Safety for Domiciliary Care eLearning

Module overview

Domiciliary care is the set of services put in place to support an individual in their own home, and there may be situations which pose a risk to the health and safety of those being cared for and those providing the care.

This module provides essential information into the tasks that are likely to be completed when performing domiciliary care, the health and safety implications when caring for another person within their own home, legislative considerations, and effective infection control practices.

The module also contains information specific to risk assessments, travelling to and from a property, hot water and hot surfaces, medication management, and lone working.

Selected Learning Outcomes for Health and Safety for Domiciliary Care:

  • the health and safety implications when caring for another person within their own home
  • the key definitions relating to health and safety literature and risk assessments
  • employers’ responsibilities to protect employees while they undertake domiciliary care duties
  • how a risk assessment can be used to identify and control documented risk by taking sensible and appropriate measures
  • why driving to a person’s home can be hazardous and the factors that could increase risk to a domiciliary care worker
