Drug and Alcohol Awareness CPD eLearning module - Out Now!
We are pleased to announce the release of our new Drug and Alcohol Awareness eLearning module.
Module introduction
As a worker in the health and care sector, you are likely to have contact with a wide range of people whose circumstances may be difficult, and you may sometimes have challenging interactions with people who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This could include service users, people visiting a resident at a healthcare facility, colleagues, or other people you encounter in the course of your work.
Module overview?
The aim of this module is to advise on immediate courses of action you may take upon encountering someone who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs and who may, in that moment, require a response from you. It provides guidance on:
- problematic substance use (including factors that may lead to substance use, stigma around substance use, and indicators that someone may be under the influence of substances)
- substance use in the workplace (including substances and driving, how long it takes the body to process substances, drug and alcohol testing at work, talking to someone about their substance use, and relevant legislation)
- advice and actions (including managing people who are intoxicated, preventing and managing challenging behaviours, and other considerations such as balancing risks and responsibilities, mental capacity, confidentiality and information sharing, and safeguarding).
Who should take this module?
This module is recommended for clinical job roles as it includes specific information on mental capacity, administering medicine, and safeguarding, however it can also be used by anybody in a non-clinical role who may come into contact with people who have used alcohol or drugs in the workplace.
How do I access this module?
Our Drug and Alcohol Awareness module is available to add to any user profiles by accessing 'Management > Staff > Manage Profiles' on the Blue Stream Academy Management Dashboard.
