Dental Impressions Taking Course | Verifiable Dental Nurse & Dentist CPD
Blue Stream Academy is pleased to announce the release of Impression Taking. This course is now available on the Dental eLearning and Management platform.
What is an Impression?
A dental impression is a simple and effective technique for creating an accurate replica of a patient’s teeth and surrounding soft tissues, providing the dental laboratory with the details required to create a customised appliance.
What does this dental training course cover?
This eLearning course provides dental care professionals with information about the various uses of dental impressions, including dentures, bridges and retainers.
It explores the materials used to capture impressions, including alginate, addition silicones, and polyether, along with key considerations for measuring, mixing and setting materials. As well as clarifying the protocols for taking alginate impressions, this course highlights methods to ensure that all impressions are of the highest standard and are handled in ways that minimise the risk of cross-infection.
The course provides insights into the impression workflow, including pre-procedure preparation, for example PPE and hand hygiene, as well as administrative tasks such as reviewing dentist prescriptions and clinical notes.
It also covers the types of impression trays that may be used, adhesive considerations, and the importance of obtaining full, informed consent.
Additionally, the course includes post-procedural guidance on the successful removal of an impression tray, as well as how to check, decontaminate, and prepare the impression for lab collection.
Who is this online course suitable for?
This dental online training course has been developed for any GDC registered professionals involved in the impression taking process, included dentists, dental hygienists and dental practice nurses.
Does this course contribute to Continuing Professional Development (CPD)?
Absolutely! Upon successful completion, members of the dental team can gain 1 verifiable CPD hour to be used towards their rolling General Dental Council (GDC) CPD requirements. This training course covers GDC development outcomes B, C and D.
