Blue Stream Academy

Latest Updates to Blue Stream Academy's Sepsis and Sepsis Awareness eLearning Modules

We are pleased to announce that we have updated our Sepsis and Sepsis Awareness eLearning modules. These updates have been implemented across our General Practice, Health and Social Care, Hospice, Urgent Care, and Aesthetics eLearning and Management platforms.

But that’s not all - we are also excited to announce the official release of the updated Sepsis and Sepsis Awareness eLearning modules on the Dental platform. This is a significant development as Dental professionals were previously faced with varying guidelines, so we had been waiting for this important update, before releasing the modules onto the dental platform.

Brief overview of Sepsis and Sepsis Awareness eLearning modules

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that arises when the body’s response to an infection injures its own tissues and organs.

Sepsis is indiscriminate and can affect anybody at any time. In the United Kingdom, 5 people die with sepsis every hour.

It is important for health and social care workers to understand what sepsis is, who it affects and how to assess and help people with suspected sepsis.

The Sepsis and Sepsis Awareness modules cover topics including:
  • what sepsis is
  • who is at risk
  • assessing symptoms for potential sepsis
  • identifying people with suspected sepsis
  • diagnosis and early management.

Updated module information: keeping pace with guidelines

On Wednesday, 31 January 2024, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) updated its sepsis guidelines (NG51).

We had been waiting for this important update, notifying trainees at the start of the module that this update would be arriving soon.

Health and social care professionals were previously faced with varying guidance, which we had to include as part of our training, so these revisions will help end a period of instability.

The revised modules have not changed significantly but do now deliver a coordinated, cohesive approach to the recognition and management of sepsis, following the release of the NICE guidance. It is not a requirement to retake the module before your renewal date, but you may wish your staff to do so.

Who should take this module?

Whilst sepsis training is not mandatory for everyone in the UK, it is strongly recommended for health and social care workers. It is important that health and social care workers are competent in the recognition of, and response to, sepsis.

Our Sepsis eLearning module is aimed at clinical staff who work in primary care.

Our Sepsis Awareness eLearning module is aimed at non-clinical staff, volunteers and anyone interested in learning more about sepsis.

How do I access this module?

Our Sepsis and Sepsis Awareness modules are available to add to any user profiles by accessing 'Management > Staff > Manage Profiles' on the Blue Stream Academy Management Dashboard.
